Residential checklist

Deep cleaning checklist

A regular clean maintains a home. A deep clean resets it. The difference is not effort — it is scope: the edges, the build-up and the things that only come off twice a year.

When a deep clean is worth it

Plan one when the build-up has become visible: dull grout, greasy cupboard fronts, dust on the vents, or a bathroom that no longer feels clean after a normal wipe-down. Twice a year is typical for a family home; once a year is often enough for a couple in a smaller apartment.

If you are moving in or out, use the move-out checklist instead — it covers handover conditions rather than maintenance.

How long it really takes. A deep clean is roughly two to three times the work of a regular clean. A one-bedroom apartment typically takes 3–4 hours; a three-bedroom townhouse 5–7 hours. Quotes that promise a same-day “deep clean” of a family home in two hours are usually a regular clean with a deep-clean label.
